FAQ

I get a number of questions regarding my work and Starfield Creations, this page will hopefully answer most of that for you. This page will be updated when further questions are adressed

What Happened to the Animation Page?
Flash animations have been taken down for a few reasons. Mostly for the fact I’ve been trying to clean up the site of most clutter. It was difficult to update the page once new animations were made, and I gathered that the easiest method to posting animation was by uploading them to YouTube. Unfortunately, some older animations have been scrapped due to the fact that I lost a lot of the original files (not all of them mind you, some of the very very OLDER flash animations.) I still happen to have the SWF files, but converting these files to a medium better suited for YouTube is difficult and I might not be able to post them unless I figure it out. Also, I’m a little hesitant to post some of my older pieces, though I know they’ve gained some interesting popularity. Honestly, I can’t say I’m still proud of them as throughout the years they’ve clearly shown their age and they’re embarrassing for me to even look at. But who knows, in the future I may repost them at Youtube.

Also, it’s become a bit of a trend for folks to take my work and post it on other websites such as Newgrounds or other Flash based entertainment sites. If you happen to spot them, please notify the admins of the site unless credit has been fully given to me.

Are You Going to continue work on The Roomies Comic?
As much thought I’ve put into it, and as much as I’d love to, I have to say that the comic has been put off for an undetermined amount of time. Though I would like to return to The Roomies, I have to say that I just don’t have the time for it. If I ever get enough free time aside from my work schedule, you may see a return of The Roomies in the future. But I can’t make any promises. If anything, I will try from time to time continue the story in pieces through my gallery(s), but updates will be scarce. But as I stated before, I can’t make any promises right now.

Followup, is there an archive for the Roomies previous comics?
Nope, not at this time.

What College did you go to? Can you recommend a College?
I graduated from The Art Institue (Ai) of LA, Orange County with a bachelors of science in Animation. But before that, I managed to go to the Orange County High School of Arts (OSCHA) from 1997-2001. College was an interesting time to say the least, but I can’t recommend any particular college as it’s very different and subjective from college to college as well as the times. Though I DO recommend college to get you better prepared for the industry, as well as yo hopefully point you in the right direction as you may or may not feel you’re best suited for the career. It’s entirely up to you, as you must be ambitious and be willing to take risks. I know several artists who are both college drop outs who are both successful and unsuccessful. It’s really up to your own determination. So as far as recommendations on colleges go, no I can’t suggest any particular one.

Why do you have Two Galleries?
I have two galleries because I try to keep one more personal then the other. I try to update both galleries, but I seem to spend more time on my DeviantArt gallery as it’s easier to maintain and post artwork. My SFC Gallery hosted on this site is easily better categorized and keeps it from meshing all together in one pile. I will try to update it more often in the future, but more likely I’ll focus on the DA Gallery. I’m sure that my SFC gallery has some exclusive artwork not posted on the DA gallery, but I have so much artwork I’ve made over the years, it’s hard for me to even follow that.

Where do you work/What do you do?
Jobs tend to change over time, but I’ve mostly worked in the animation industry to this day doing storyboarding or character design. I’ve also done some freelance work involving video editing and animatic work. I started off working for Warner Bros. in 2004 as a character designer and storyboard artist, and then went to work for Nickelodeon during production on my short “Ivan the Unbearable.” From then on, I’ve done work for several other studios, including Mike Young Productions, Leap Frog and Jim Henson Studios. I also tend to spend most of my free time developing my own concepts and artwork.

Do you do Commissions?
From time to time I will open up moments for commissions, but it’s very rare. You have to understand that I do have a job with very little side time to work on other things and commissions tend to take over even when I want to do my own side projects. I will often announce either on here or my DeviantArt Gallery (where most of the commission crowd tends to gather.)

If you have any questions you want to ask me please do not hesitate, but I do get a lot of emails and I don’t always have time to answer everyone

Aye. I’ve been looking to go to CalArts, but…. $46k for a yearly admission… that’s not counting the funds it would take to move to Cali, and all that jazz… It’s just not looking good. Although i’ll try for a scholarship.

Nice site update btw Andy, and this faq answered all of my questions… guess i’ll have to check out ‘the way back machine’ to view your older flashes…. I liked em anyways. :p

I enjoy your art very dearly, but out of curiosity, what job do you have now?

Great question, I added it to the FAQ. I can’t elaborate on what I’m doing NOW, but I can give you an idea on what I do for a living. Thank you =)

What happened to the “One Knights Tail” comic? Did it stop on page 62? If there was more, is there an archive?

I can’t fave stuff in your Starfield Gallery even though I just made an account today. Is there something wrong with your gallery page, cause it won’t let me log in either.

    I hope you are well.

The Gallery has been closed of leaving comments and “favorites” because of risks in spam. When I opened up comments on the gallery it gets flooded with unnecessary comments I don’t have time to moderate, so, the gallery is there for viewing only.

    1) Have you ever seen any episodes of the Twisted Tales of Felix animated series that was on in the early nineties?
    2) I’m an aspiring video critic, do you have any tips?

I am currently in Art school and would like to know how you “broke into the business” so to speak, because animation/character design is the direction I would like to go with my degree
